ESDI is a university school of design, affiliated to the Ramon Llull University, with 35 years of experience training designers.

Over three years, I worked as a university lecturer teaching Graphic Design degree students, with a strong emphasis on digital design as a strategic and conceptual practice. For two of those years, I taught Figma from the ground up, framing the tool not as an end in itself but as a system to understand UX and UI principles. The core focus of the course was to help students make informed design decisions based on structure, usability and context, rather than personal taste.

As Figma is an ever-evolving tool, the syllabus required constant adaptation both during the academic year and across successive years. In response, I designed and developed a Figma-first teaching prototype that allowed the course content to be modular, flexible and easily updatable. The material was structured clearly and systematically, while remaining interactive, visually engaging and accessible, enabling students to revisit lectures, techniques and workflows outside the classroom. This approach not only supported independent learning but also served as a live demonstration of Figma’s potential, helping students become familiar with the tool through direct exposure.

Learning was practice-led, combining theory with daily exercises, experimentation and continuous feedback. The course culminated in a student-led final project developed entirely in Figma. Each student created a brand concept, designed its visual identity, and translated it into a fully articulated digital interface tailored to their concept—whether an app, website, digital archive or community platform. The final outcomes formed a key portfolio piece, demonstrating conceptual clarity, UX/UI thinking and confident use of Figma as a professional design environment.
